Web Development Track

Before I take you to the rest of my site, let me give you a little info about this Individualized Track Project.

We were asked by our Professor Mr. John Ruero in Basic Concepts for I.T. Pro to pick a topic that’s based on our interests. Among the options are Project Management, System Analysis,  Database Track, Network Track, eCommerce, Knowledge Management, Object-Oriented Programming, Customer Relationship Management and Web Development Track (which obviously I chose).

Together with these tracks are Modules that we can read and then decide which deliverables we want to submit, either a case study or a small project. There are two options for Web Dev Track:

  1. Develop a simple project that showcases the important components of web serving using the LAMP Framework.  This may include a simple web-based front-end application, with a few tables on the backend that may be updated, using Perl/PHP as the language of choice.  Alternately, if a proprietary system is used, then the project must showl the rudiments of web serving using the proprietary software (using Microsoft Windows, ASP, MS Server and IIS).
  2. Research at least three e-business sites that utilizes the LAMP Framework, then prepare a comparative report based on the the following: content, organization, nagivation, ease-of-use, and security framework.

I suppose by now, you have a hint that I picked the last one. You see, it would be nice to create a website that is based on LAMP but first and foremost, I don’t have a background with Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP so how am I gonna do that? Found good references though, but according to the books I’m reading, it’s much better to try encoding the source codes as you read the book. Another problem, I can’t install those software’s on my PC. I really have a lot of reasons why I didn’t the pick the first one but to cut to the chase, the allotted time to finish the project is really not enough for me. So, instead of making plain paper works for my report I suggested to my prof that I’m just gonna present it through static web (at least the concept of web development is still there).
